The Global Scholars Program sponsored by Dr. Stetson and his wife Erica awards scholarships to eligible applicants from countries with limited resources who have demonstrated a desire and ability to positively impact their communities by providing the highest quality musculoskeletal care for their patients in addition to demonstrating a passion for teaching/educating.

This program was part of the The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) program for International surgeons to come to the United States to learn new surgical skills.  The ultimate goal of this program is to improve the quality and outcomes of orthopaedic care in the developing world through orthopaedic education.  As Chairman of the AAOS International Committee, Dr. Stetson help this program grow to over 12 scholarships per year.  Dr. Stetson has also been one of the sponsor of this program since its inception.  The program was discontinued by the AAOS in 2019 but Dr. Stetson has continued his sponsorship of the program.

Each scholarship recipient participates in an AAOS Orthopaedic Learning Center surgical skills course of his/her choice followed by a week observership at the offices of Dr. Stetson in Burbank.

Over the past 10 years, the Global Scholars Program scholarships has brought over ten orthopaedic surgeons from many different parts of the world including Bolivia, China, Mexico, Ethiopia, Bali and Romania  to our offices in Burbank. Their positive feedback and the fact that they share the knowledge they gained with their peers allows us to believe that the program is impactful and helps improve the orthopaedic patient care in developing countries well after the recipients return home.
