Work - Sports Medicine Program for Local High Schools
In 1998, Dr. Stetson started a sports medicine program for local
high schools in conjunction with Glendale Adventist Medical Center
(GAMC). Recognizing a need in the local community for sports medicine
care and athletic trainers, Dr. Stetson started the Athletic Training
Program with the generous support of GAMC and a dedicated team of
physicians and athletic traininers.
The program provides an athletic trainer for 20 hours per week for
the entire school year to help treat young student athletes. This
is free of charge for the local high schools. In addition, Dr. Stetson
and his sports medicine team provides medical coverage for each
of the schools' home football games and also conducts physicals
for the student athletes once a year for a nominal fee. This physical
includes a complete physical exam along with an electrocardiogram
(EKG) in order to detect underlying congenital heart problems which
are not usually detected on a routine physical exam.
Our current list of schools include:
Crescenta Valley High School
Glendale High School
Hoover High School
John Burroughs High School (Burbank)
Village Christian High School (Sun Valley)
Bellarmine Jefferson High School (Burbank)
Glendale Community College
Dr. Stetson is very proud of his team of athletic trainers who are
the backbone of the program. Without them, the program would not
be the success it is today and our local high school student athletes
continue to get outstanding athletic training services. Many thanks
to each one of them and to GAMC for their generous support of our
program.
Testimonials:
Dear Bill:
On behalf of the Glendal Unifified School District, I would like
to take this opportunity to thank you for the wonderful athletic
training services and medical coverage that you, your doctors, and
trainers provide for the student/athletes at our high schools. We
realize that this is a service of true compassion and concern that
you have for athletics in our community, and we are extremely appreciative.
I also want to thank you for providing an opportunity for our student/athletes
to receive a comprehensive physical examination for an affordable
cost. In this manner, hopefully we can prevent the ill iffects of
a condition that might go otherwise undetected or untreated.
Sincerely,
G. Robert Canfield

Dear Dr. Stetson:
I would like to express my thanks as well as the appreciation of
our entire athletic program for the hours of service you provide.
Due to your presence at athletic events, injuries are tended to,
and further injuries are prevented. Additionally, the fact that
a licensed doctor is on site brings much peace of mind.
Thank you for your hours of service and dedication to our athletes.
Truly yours,
