Volunteer Work - Sports Medicine Program for Local High Schools

In 1998, Dr. Stetson started a sports medicine program for local high schools in conjunction with Glendale Adventist Medical Center (GAMC). Recognizing a need in the local community for sports medicine care and athletic trainers, Dr. Stetson started the Athletic Training Program with the generous support of GAMC and a dedicated team of physicians and athletic traininers.

The program provides an athletic trainer for 20 hours per week for the entire school year to help treat young student athletes. This is free of charge for the local high schools. In addition, Dr. Stetson and his sports medicine team provides medical coverage for each of the schools' home football games and also conducts physicals for the student athletes once a year for a nominal fee. This physical includes a complete physical exam along with an electrocardiogram (EKG) in order to detect underlying congenital heart problems which are not usually detected on a routine physical exam.

Dr. Stetson is very proud of his team of athletic trainers who are the backbone of the program. Without them, the program would not be the success it is today and our local high school student athletes continue to get outstanding athletic training services.
